In the wake of a synagogue shooting in Texas and nationwide bomb threats against historically Black universities, the Department of Homeland Security has issued a bulletin warning against hostile activities from both foreign and domestic extremists, Reuters reports.
Since 2017, federal law enforcement agencies have issued warning about the increasing threat from extremists, particularly those right-wing white nationalist groups who promote violent responses to issues from government mandates to racial justice. In the past ten days, more than a dozen historically Black colleges and universities have been shut down due to bomb threats.
“Threats directed at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other colleges and universities, Jewish facilities, and churches cause concern and may inspire extremist threat actors to mobilize to violence,” the Homeland Security Department said in a bulletin.
