Independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta – whose editor in chief, Dmitry Muratov, split the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize with Philippines journalist Maria Ressa – announced Monday it’s suspending operations following the second warning from the Kremlin over its coverage of the Ukraine war, the Moscow Times’s Felix Light reports. The shutdown comes just a day after Novaya Gazeta journalists – along with those from a handful of other independent Russian outlets – ran an extraordinary interview with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.
