In an effort to again prove that the state’s education ranks among the nation’s worst, Alabama students are holding COVID parties where the first attendee to test positive for the virus gets proceeds from ticket sales.
According to CNN reporting, the events are not urban legends. Public health officials have tracked outbreaks to such parties in the areas around the city of Tuscaloosa. Attendees who tested positive after one party are then encouraged to attend others, giving additional guests the opportunity to “win” the virus sweepstakes.
Alabama has seen a significant spike in new cases in the previous week, with more than 1,700 cases reported this past Saturday.
