Gallup reports that just 45% of Americans say they’re “extremely proud,” marking the second consecutive year the survey have fallen below half.
Overall 70% declare some pride in their Americanism, with 22% of Democrats declaring themselves “extremely proud” and 76% of republicans declaring similar feelings.
Men and women have similar sentiments about their Americanism: 48% of men and 43% of women. The percentage increase with increasing age groups as well.
When asked about what part of American culture conveys pride, respondents noted scientific achievements, the military and arts rank the highest, while politics and the health & welfare system rank worst.
