A US Navy amphibious assault ship, the USS Bonhomme Richard, caught fire while docked at the US Naval Shipyard in San Diego and exploded, injuring at least 21 sailors and civilians. All sailors assigned to the ship have been accounted for.
The fire was initially reported Sunday morning, with fire crews from multiple local agencies, including the San Diego Fire Department, responded to the dock. As of Sunday afternoon (PT), two crews were still on the ship knocking down remaining fires, according to CNN.
No cause of the fire was identified, but the fire reportedly started in the well deck, where landing craft enter and exit the Bonhomme Richard, which was commissioned in 1998.
More than 160 people were on the ship at the time of the fire. The ship normally has a complement of 1,000 personnel.
