Controversial New York Times opinion page writer and editor Bari Weiss has resigned from the newspaper amid allegations of “unlawful discrimination, hostile work environment, and constructive discharge,” according to a statement posted on her website.
Weiss has been a lightning rod of criticism for her repeated slings at societal movements like the MeToo and Black Lives Matter.
Recently, she was a co-signee on a letter to Harper’s magazine which decried the so-called “cancel culture” as “illiberalism” and a threat to open dialogue.
Her participation in that letter, along with other positions she had advocated, had made her feel unwelcomed among her colleagues at the Times, according to reports. In her resignation post, she claimed that she was harassed on the newspaper’s Slack channels.
“There are terms for all of this: unlawful discrimination, hostile work environment, and constructive discharge,” Weiss wrote. “I’m no legal expert. But I know that this is wrong.”
[Note that in the same paragraph that she claimed something was “unlawful”, she stated “[She’s] no legal expert.”]
