Thomas Gilmer, the 29-year-old republican Congressional candidate for the Connecticut 2nd District who was arrested Monday on domestic abuse charges, is just 15 votes shy of gaining his Party’s nomination after Election Day, according to the New York Times vote tracker.
The candidate endorsed by the state republican Party, Gilmer was arrested on a warrant, which had been issued July 22nd, on allegations that he attacked and attempted to strangle a former girlfriend.
He withdrew from the race in which he faced Justin Anderson, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Connecticut National Guard who served four tours of duty overseas.
However, republican voters in Connecticut may not be done with the alleged abuser. After the Election Day votes were tallied, he trailed Lt. Col. Anderson by just 15 votes, 8,886 to 8,871. The margin will trigger an automatic recount.
