A police officer on the University of South Florida campus was fired from her job after declaring that she was a “KKK member” on her Twitter profile, the Washington Post reports.
26-year-old Pressley Garcia admitted that the account was hers, but claimed a friend of her updated the profile five years ago and she never noticed it. The account has since been deleted.
“There’s all the talk of ‘Back the Blue,’ but not one person had my back,” she told the Tampa Bay Times. “I feel helpless and like I’m drowning. No one was willing to just listen to my story, and I feel like the university was just trying to cover their butts.”
USF Police Chief Chris Daniel, who recommended her removal from office, saying that her continued employment by the department would disrupt operations and endanger other officers.
