President Barack Obama will make his address to the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night from the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, CNN reports.
The venue was chosen to symbolize the critical nature of this election in preserving the American republic and protecting Americans’ democratic freedoms fought for by the Founding Fathers.
At numerous times during the convention, speakers–both Democrats and republicans–have noted that Trump’s authoritarian tendencies are a direct threat to American freedoms. During Tuesday night’s event, Independent Senator Bernie Sanders said Trump was “leading the country down the path of authoritarianism.”
Obama will be the third living former president to address the convention, joining segments from Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton last night.
No former republican presidents or even republican presidential candidates are scheduled to address the republican National Convention.
