Republican congressional nominee from Utah Burgess Owens, who is facing allegations of plagiarism for copying passages from websites for his 2018 book, talked about his family history and very little else.
Owens said his an 8-year-old boy named Silas Burgess was shackled in the belly of a slave ship. [Fact check: kidnapped Africans weren’t given “christian names” until they were sold as slaves to their masters.]
The rest of Owens’s speech was praise of Trump and a stump speech for his campaign for a Utah congressional seat.
