Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, whose position is legally questionable, said on Sunday that he wasn’t aware a naturalization ceremony for five people was being filmed for broadcast during the republican National Convention, Politico reports.
“It was uploaded to a public YouTube channel,” he said on ABC’s “This Week” according to the Politico report. “Anyone, any individual, organization or political party can pull down that video and do with it as they wish.”
When asked if he knew the video would be used during the RNC, Wolf replied, “No. We had a number of USCIS employees there, as they do every naturalization ceremony, making sure that that ceremony goes off without a hitch. They were giving that oath of allegiance to those individuals there. And again, we’ll continue to do that, because that’s our mission at the department.”
The video of the ceremony was broadcast Tuesday night as part of the RNC. At least three of the new citizens said they didn’t know the ceremony would be included in the republican programming.
Wolf’s appointment as DHS Secretary is in violation of the Constitution’s Appointments Clause because he’s been in office as an acting secretary longer than is legally permitted.
