The NATO Secretary-General on Friday confirmed the conclusions of the German government that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned by the Russian government using a Soviet-era nerve agent, the Associated Press reports.
“There is proof beyond doubt that Mr. Navalny was poisoned using a military-grade nerve agent from the Novichok group. The use of such a weapon is horrific,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said after chairing a meeting of NATO ambassadors during which Germany briefed its allies on developments.
Navalny became sick on a flight after drinking a cup of tea that was alleged spiked with Novichok, chemical weapon developed by the Soviet Union. Navalny was transferred from Russia to a German hospital for treatment after the Russians claimed that he wasn’t poisoned.
