An obviously angry Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said President Trump intentionally lied to the American people to downplay the danger of the coronavirus, saying “He failed to do his job on purpose.”
“It’s beyond despicable. It’s a dereliction of duty, a disgrace,” Biden said, speaking in Warren, Michigan.
Focusing on Trump’s economic record, Biden noted that the United States is down 4.7 million jobs, even though Trump said during the 2016 campaign, “Only I can save” jobs in Warren and throughout the country.
Biden noted that off-shored jobs from federal contracts have doubled under Trump, and the US trade deficit has reached an all-time high during the Trump administration. “His 2017 tax bill slashed the tax bill for those companies that shipped jobs overseas,” Biden said.
“What about President Trump’s promise to ‘Buy American’?” Biden asked. “Like all of Trump’s reality, it’s nothing but hot air.”
Addressing Trump’s alleged disparagement of members of the US military as well as those killed, wounded or captured in action, Biden noted that his son Beau served in Kosovo and Iraq, saying “Beau was no sucker. He was no loser.”
“Donald Trump doesn’t understand what it means to serve something bigger than yourself,” Biden stated.
Biden outlined an economic agenda that would raise taxes on companies that off-shore jobs, adding a 10% surtax to the tax bill for companies that move jobs overseas only to have those products
“I’m not looking to punish American businesses, but there’s a better way,” Biden said. “Make it in Michigan. Make it in America.”
Biden proposed a “ten percent advanceable tax credit for companies that reopen or retool a US manufacturing plant or “re-shore” jobs that had been shipped overseas,” Biden explained. “My plan is designed to close loopholes that Trump instituted in his 2017 tax bill.”
A company selling deployment bags, Biden said, labeled its products as “Made in America” when they were mostly made in China. Biden said he would close loopholes that would allow false labeling.
Biden also vowed to start the conversion of the fleet of federal vehicles to electric vehicles, leading to new jobs. He commented that a new electric powered Corvette reached 210.2 MPH. “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of that,” Biden said. Those projects would lead to one million new jobs in the American auto sector.
