Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will receive the International Emmy Award‘s Founders Award for his effective use of television to inform the public during the coronavirus pandemic.
At the height of the pandemic ravaging New York and surrounding areas, Cuomo held daily press briefings to keep the citizens of the state informed about the status of the fight against virus. Cuomo would provide updates on hospital capacities, availability of supplies, and plans for restrictions.
“The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure,” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner. “People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”
No word from the White House if they will offer congratulations to Gov. Cuomo.
