Marjorie Taylor Greene (Q-Georgia) illegally claimed a state tax credit on two different properties, saying that each of the properties were her primary residences so they could get the state’s homestead exemption, WSB ABC-2 News in Atlanta reports.
In Georgia, a homeowner under the age of 65 can claim a $2,000 tax credit on local school taxes for their primary residence. (Residents over 65 can claim $4,000.) But the exemption can only be claimed on the primary residence, not a second house or rental. It’s illegal to claim it multiple times.
Greene owns a home in North Fulton County. Last year, she and her husband bought a second home in Floyd County, in the congressional district she represents in Congress, for $610,000.
