Joe Concha, a disgraced one-time media columnist for The Hill who is now relegated to “contributor” (cough, cough… unpaid) status, fell off the face of reality by using the satire website Babylon Bee as a source in a recent column.
In an op/ed chock full of misinformation, Concha used a tweet from the Babylon Bee to complain about President Joe Biden wearing a mask during a recent Zoom call with world leaders, saying he was “virtue signalling.” Concha doesn’t note that while Biden was the only one on camera, there are typically a number of staffers in the room while the President talks to foreign leaders, making Biden’s mask conform to CDC guidelines in place at the time.
Concha also contorts himself to support a claim by Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (Q-Colorado) that Texas’s lifting of mask requirements didn’t have detrimental impact on fighting the virus in the state. Concha says, “Using the latest data available, on May 16, there were zero COVID deaths in Texas.”
The choice of the May 16th date is purposeful. It doesn’t match up to two months after the Texas mask mandate was lifted; that was on March 2nd. May 16th was also a Sunday, typically a weekly dip in reporting because it’s a Sunday.
What Concha fails to note is that since the state lifted its mask mandate, Texas has had more than 6,800 coronavirus fatalities, about 10% of the overall fatalities in the US in that time. Texas has 8.7% of the overall US population, meaning their fatalities outpace their population.
Cherrypicking data and using a declared satirical website as a source demonstrates the lack of professionalism and seriousness Li’l Joey Concha puts into his propaganda. He’s the personification of “Fake News”.
