A volcano erupted just outside of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s North Kivu province’s capital city of Goma on Saturday. There are conflicting reports on whether it’s the Nyamuragira or Nyiragongo volcano, but they’re right next to each other and both are on the outskirts of the city, so the question is largely moot. From the video above (footage stitched by @CallOutKenya) it would appear that basaltic lava is flowing into populated areas. A 2002 eruption of Nyiragongo killed 245 locals and covered over 13% of Goma in lava, displacing 120,000 residents.
