An independent report by a non-partisan government investigator released Monday found that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson exhibited exceptional poor judgment while holding a series of crowded social gatherings at 10 Downing Street while the country was in lockdown due to spreading coronavirus, the BBC reports.
Senior British civil servant Sue Gray investigated 16 different social events held at the Prime Minister’s residence while the government was enforcing mandatory isolation regulations that limited the number of people who could meet in a private residence.
Gray found “failures of leadership and judgment by different parts of No 10 and the Cabinet Office at different times. Some of the events should not have been allowed to take place. Other events should not have been allowed to develop as they did.”
Johnson’s leadership has been attacked for his lack of judgement for failing to adhere to government regulations in his personal life while compelling British citizens to buckle down as the omicron variant swept through the country.
“At least some of the gatherings in question represent a serious failure to observe not just the high standards expected of those working at the heart of Government but also of the standards expected of the entire British population at the time,” the report adds.
