Eighteen really intelligent folks were rescued by the US Coast Guard Sunday after the ice floe they were standing on broke off and drifted into open water near Catawba Island, Ohio, in Lake Erie, CNN reports. The smart people, possibly gathering to participate in a group discussion on topics such as the mathematical formulations of quantum mechanics or the weight of Hesiod’s influence upon Virgil’s Georgics, had arrived at the site on snowmobiles when the chunk of ice broke away. The brainiacs were then rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter from Detroit and two Air Boats from Marblehead, Ohio. None of the MENSA members were injured in the ordeal.
