The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to end normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus as punishment for its invasion of Ukraine, with eight pro-Russian Republicans voting against the measure, Yahoo News reports.
Republicans Andy Biggs (Arizona), Dan Bishop (North Carolina), Lauren Boebert (Colorado), Matt Gaetz (Florida), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia), Glenn Grothman (Wisconsin), Thomas Massie (Kentucky) and Chip Roy (Texas) all voted to maintain Russia’s and Belarus’s trading status.
The bill also authorized President Joe Biden to enforce at his discretion the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, which allows punishment if president deems Russia or Belarus committed human rights abuses.
