A disturbing video that appears to show Ukrainian soldiers executing a wounded Russian soldier lying along with three other dead bodies is coming under scrutiny as possibly staged by the Russians.
As Reuters reports, the video appears to show a group of Ukrainian soldiers, wearing blue armbands, standing among bodies of Russian soldiers. One of the Russians is still alive, moaning and gasping for air. Bullets are fired into his body from off camera, but as he still gasps, another soldier shots him, apparently finishing him off.
The camera then pans to two other bodies, one shot in the head and his hands tied, with blood streaming off the roadway. (The video can be seen here on a Russian-language Telegram channel, but be advised that it is very graphic.)
Linguists who have seen the video noted that the dialects and accents of the supposed Ukrainian soldiers–who are all speaking Russian–are from Russian regions: one spoke with a Caucasian accent and others sounded as though they were from southern Russia.
While only one of the supposedly-Ukrainian soldiers is wearing any insignia, and he’s wearing a Ukrainian military patch upside-down. The supposedly-Russian casualties are not wearing Russian insignia, which Regular Army Russian soldiers in uniform would have. And equipment that would be found with soldiers, such as helmets and equipment, are all missing, with it appearing some of the dead soldiers having been stripped of clothing that could identify them or their units.
Metadata on the video, which was originally posted two days ago, pinpoints the location as a village north of Bucha where Russians were in control until recently and the site of alleged war crimes by Russian soldiers. The video may be an attempt by the Russians to imply Ukrainians are committing war crimes as well, by having Russians in Ukrainian uniforms stage the incident with killed Ukrainian prisoners.
