The Capitol complex was momentarily in chaos when a unknown airplane wandered into the airspace over the Capitol, causing a security alert that prompted the evacuation of the Capitol office buildings.
MSNBC reports that the plane was flying to the Washington Nationals ballpark, about a mile away from the Capitol, where it discharged four members of the Army Golden Knights parachute team, who dropped in to the Nationals’ game for Military Appreciation Day.
Apparently, the pilot never registered the flight with the FAA or Secret Service even though he knew the flight path would take him into restricted airspace.
