An analysis of voter data in Tuesday’s Georgia Republican primary by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows that 7% of them had cast ballots in the 2020 primary election. While this certainly did not make a difference in the gubernatorial or AG primaries, where Gov Brian Kemp and Attorney General Chris Carr crushed their Trump-backed challengers and won with more than 57% of the vote (assuming, pretty safely, that most if not all of the crossover Dems voted against Trump picks), the same can’t be said of the Secretary of State primary, on either side. Incumbent Brad Raffensperger won with 52.3% of the vote, without the Dem voters helping he certainly would’ve been sent to a likely tough runoff against MAGA challenger Congressman Jody Hice. On the other side, Stacey Abrams ally State Rep Bee Nguyen is stuck with a runoff in the Dem primary, having taken 44.2% of the vote to nearest challenger Dee Hawkins-Haigler’s 18.7%, but it’s less clear if Bee would’ve hit 50% if not for the Dems crossing over in the open primaries.
We can say for sure however Jody Hice is an idiot for throwing away a career in the US House to run for a lower office overseeing elections and then not even making it to a runoff in that one. What a fucking cuck, pathetically trying to curry favor with the Orange God Emperor and failing because of Democrats. He was in a safe seat, could’ve stayed in Congress until he was dead, now some other asshole will take over while Hice has to look down the list of all the companies who he thinks owe him a job for the favors he did for them while in office. How the hell did he not at one point think to himself “Oh shit, Stacy Abrams is unopposed and Warnock’s primary isn’t competitive at all so there’s going to be at least a few Dems looking to vote for Raffensperger to troll Trump. I wouldn’t put it past those sneaky bastards to crossover in an open primary, so maybe I should just quietly back out and file to run for my seat instead”? Man, what a loser.
