The manager of a gas station in Northern California accidentally set the price at the pumps to 69 cents per gallon, leading to a rush of sales costing the station owner more than $16,000, leading to his firing, ABC News reports.
“I put all three prices on there, except the diesel. The last one kind of didn’t go. So, I just took responsibility for it and said yeah, it’s my fault,” John Szczecina, the former manager of the Shell station in Rancho Cordova, said. Szczecina said he was trying to key in a price of $6.99 per gallon, but accidentally. misplaced the decimal point.
As word spread of the mistake, hundreds of cars lined up and got gas before the mistake was corrected. Szczecina said he is concerned that the owner of the station will sue him for lost profits.
