More than 400 law enforcement officers from local, state and federal jurisdictions were on the scene at the Uvalde school shooting at Robb Elementary with no one taking control May 24th as a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers, a new report created by a Texas state house investigative team, the Associated Press reports.
The first arrivers didn’t respond for more than 80 minutes, with some positioned in the school but most lingering outside. The total includes 91 state police officers and nearly 150 Border Patrol agents. A Border Patrol emergency response team was the unit that finally opened the unlocked classroom door and eliminated the shooter.
“It’s a joke. They’re a joke. They’ve got no business wearing a badge. None of them do,” Vincent Salazar, grandfather of 11-year-old victim Layla Salazer, said Sunday after families were given a copy of the report.
