President Joe Biden will go back into isolation after being diagnosed with a “rebound” case of coronavirus, an uncommon situation where the viral load bounces back after the patient tests negative for the disease upon recovering from a case, Politico reports.
Covid patients who take the anti-viral Paxlovid have experienced rebound cases. In May, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an advisory that rebound cases for patients taking Paxlovid were documented, but the rebound cases were no more severe than the initial infections in those patients.
“The President has not experienced any reemergence of symptoms and is feeling quite well,” White House physician Kevin O’Connor wrote in a memo released Saturday. “This being the case, there is no reason to reinitiate treatment at this time, but we will obviously continue close observation.”
