Maryland Capitol rioter Bryan Betancur was sentenced on Wednesday to four months in jail after taking a plea deal in May reducing his felonies to misdemeanors, the Washington Post reports.
Not the most remarkable lede these days given the number of insurrectionists still making their way through the justice system, but how he got caught is about as good as they get: Betancur, a 22 year old Proud Boy, was wearing an ankle monitor while serving probation on a burglary conviction and prohibited from leaving the state. He told his parole officer he was headed to DC to hand out Bibles with the Gideons (the group that leaves them in hotel rooms) and communicated with the officer regularly throughout the day, even giving the heads up he wouldn’t be home by curfew. Federal prosecutors used the GPS data from the ankle monitor to corroborate photo and video evidence from the insurrection to show that Betancur was not handing out Gideon Bibles that day.
