A champion has been crowned in the annual Florida Burmese python hunt, with 19 year-old Matthew Concepcion defeating over 1,000 other participants and taking the $10,000 prize by bagging 28 of the scaly bastards over the competition’s 10 day period, the AP reports.
“I worked a levee, caught a couple hatchings, and was like, ‘Dang, this might be the ticket!’ So every single night from then on, I went out there – just before sundown to sunup,” said Concepion, foolishly sharing his winning strategy with other would be snake snaggers. Longest snake category winner Dustin Crum took the $1,500 prize for bagging a python measuring at 11 feet. But in the end all the participants were winners. They got delicious snake meat to feed their families.
