Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley on Wednesday told the Economic Club of New York he believes that over 100,000 Russian troops and Ukrainian civilians have been killed or wounded in action since the start of the war in Ukraine in February, the AP reports.
“There has been a tremendous amount of suffering, human suffering,” Milley said, adding that he explaining that the Russian withdrawal from Kherson could be a trap to lure Ukrainian troops into protracted trench warfare. “The initial indicators are they are in fact doing it. They made the public announcement they’re doing it. I believe they’re doing it in order to preserve their force to reestablish defensive lines south of the (Dnieper) river, but that remains to be seen”
