In what’s probably the strongest signal yet that Lil Ronnie DeSantis is getting ready for the big leagues, both the newly sworn-in leaders of the Florida state House and Senate on Tuesday said they’re fine with repealing the law requiring elected officials to put in an irrevocable letter of resignation ahead of qualifying if the terms of the two offices overlap, Politico reports.
“If an individual who is Florida governor is running for president, I think he should be allowed to do it,” said Republican Senate President Kathleen Passidomo to reporters. “I really do. That’s a big honor and a privilege, so it is a good idea,” she continued, as if she needed to add that in to make it sound more sincere or something and she wouldn’t be destroyed professionally if she were against it. The law itself seems a little convoluted and Politico doesn’t say when the drop-dead date would be if it isn’t repealed, but we would have to guess that DeSantis would be required to quit sometime in the Spring of 2024 if it’s “ahead of qualifying”. What isn’t unclear is where this movement to change the law is coming from. Of course DeSantis is pushing them to do it while personally playing all coy about his intentions to challenge the Orange God Emperor for the crown.
