Random thoughts Friday, Volume XCVIII

  • The erupting Mauna Loa requires a virgin sacrifice.  Nick Fuentes is available.
  • They’re targeting LGBTQ people.  They’re promoting anti-Semitism.  They want subservient women.  They believe that society should adhere to their religious beliefs only.  Now the question:  Am I talking about the Taliban or the GOP?
  • The Fox prime-time lineup in three years:  Carlson, Lake and Gabbard.
  • Jim Jordan should not be allowed to have an interview without being interrogated about the “Kanye. Elon. Trump.” tweet.  He’s the ranking Republican member of the Judiciary caucus; he’s responsible for its messaging.
  • Elon Musk suffers from the same “I alone can fix it” delusion as Trump, except what Musk wants to “fix” is the First Amendment.
  • Musk wants to promote free speech, huh?  If that’s the case, then everyone who merits a REAL blue check mark–including Musk–should not be allowed to mute or block anyone.  You can’t speak truth to power if “power” has the ability to shield themselves from your message.
  • Let’s finally say it together:  wealth does not equate to intelligence.  Wealth does not equate to competence.  Wealth does not equate to morality.
  • Kanye’s a reprehensible character who’s obviously mentally disturbed, but the real bastards in the story are the ones exploiting his mental illness and fame for their personal benefit.  Same with Herschel Walker.  They’re responsible for their own actions, but the people who encourage their ongoing quests for power are truly despicable.
  • Yes, NFL, he does need to respond to the discovery of a photo of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones blocking Black students from entering an Arkansas high school in 1957.  We know it was 65 years ago.  We know it was “a different time.”  Jones needs to respond one way, and one way only:  “Yes, I did that.  And I was wrong.  I was 15, I was conservative, and I was wrong.  I’m a better person now, and I ask for the forgiveness of the Black students involved.”  (I hope that last sentence is true, but….)
  • You know why Jim Jordan will never be asked a question about the “K.E.T.” tweet?  He won’t do an interview on a legit media network.  Check out his IMDb page:  the last time he did an interview on a network that wasn’t Fox, Newsmax, OANN, etc. was almost exactly three years ago:  December 12, 2019, on Anderson Cooper’s CNN show.
  • Got nostalgic and watched the 1968 debut episode of “Columbo.”  In one scene, he’s smoking his trademark cigar–in a hospital, I might add–and he’s got at least three more cigars in his suitcoat pocket.  Four cigars in one day would kill me.
  • With an eye to the future of the nation, Stewart Rhodes planned to undermine the Constitution on January 6th.  Unfortunately for him, it was not his working eye, and he may spend 20 years in prison because he could not see what rational people did.
  • We should completely endorse McCarthy’s intention to read the entire Constitution on the floor of the House and we should add that attendance for that bit of performance art is mandatory, particularly for his caucus.  It might be the first time many on the GOP side have heard of it.
  • Thinking back to when all the conservatives blackballed the [nee Dixie] Chicks for comments about the pending disastrous US invasion of Iraq?  Funny how they’re the ones claiming to be protecting the First Amendment now, isn’t it?
  • Have you been wondering about what happened to the monkeypox (MPX) epidemic?  It’s pretty much gone now, thanks to prompt attention from national leaders, who took it seriously and acted to stop the spread.  The seven-day running average of new cases in the US is down to just 15 per day. Kudos to competent leadership.
  • A day after reading about my intention to deplete our household’s massive inventory of tea bags, Mrs. Jack sabotaged the effort by presenting me with a Tea-a-Day Advent calendar.
  • I honestly never thought I’d live in a day when a late-night talk show host had a joke about seditious conspiracy in his monologue.
  • Hakeem Jeffries will be a consequential Leader, just as Nancy Pelosi was.  His style will undoubtedly be different–he wouldn’t be one to put his finger in Trump’s face, as Nancy did–but he seems like a shrewd negotiator and natural-born leader.
  • How ‘bout that jobs report?
