Reporters with the New York Times looked into Long Island Republican Congressman-elect George Santos’s resume of having worked for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, graduating in 2010 from Baruch College, runs an animal rescue group and a company that manages $80 million in assets, and owns a vast real estate portfolio, finding literally zero records backing any of that up.
They did find that he was charged with check fraud in Brazil in 2008 though, when he would have attending Baruch College in NYC. Santos’ lawyer Joe Murray told the Times it was “no surprise that Congressman-elect Santos has enemies at The New York Times who are attempting to smear his good name with these defamatory allegations,” but didn’t actually threaten to sue for defamation.
