Turkey-Syria earthquake death toll now over 22,000

The official death toll from a series of massive earthquakes in southern Turkey that also shook neighboring Syria on Monday rose past to at least 22,375 on Friday, now deadlier than the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami, CNN reports. Thousands remain trapped under the rubble.
