Having taken their time for at least a few years on addressing the powerful deadly opioid in their already addiction ravaged state, the Republican-majority West Virginia state Senate on Tuesday passed a bill making it a felony to possess fentanyl as well as other illegal narcotics including heroin, cocaine, PCP, LSD, and methamphetamine, the Associated Press reports.
The bill also moves all drug possession cases from local magistrate courts to circuit courts, which have more resources to apply drug treatment and probation programs for defendants.
