The late Monday night fire at the migrant facility in Juarez, Mexico was set by men – mostly from Guatemala, Honduras, Venezuela, and El Salvador – agitating for escape, piling mattresses and torching them to cause a disturbance reminiscent of the early detention camp scene in Scarface.
Problem is, according to Politico, video shows the guards did not bite and simply walked away as the conflagration grew out of control rather than let the men out with their lives. “There was smoke everywhere. The ones they let out were the women, and those (employees) with immigration,” said a woman detained in a separate block whose husband ended up hospitalized with smoke inhalation injuries. “The men, they never took them out until the firefighters arrived.”
