Air Force General Charles Q. Brown Jr. will be nominated by President Joe Biden to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, the top military post in the United States, the New York Times reports. Brown will face a Senate confirmation hearing before taking the post.
Currently the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Brown will succeed Mark A. Milley, whose four-year term ends in September. With Brown’s appointment, the top two defense positions in the United States will occupied by Black men, with Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin occupying the top civilian post.
