Actually that headline’s a complete lie because you already guessed if you read the article from last week titled “Oklahoma schools chief asks for $3.5 million for guns and Bibles.” In fact at least one commenter explicitly predicted this. We alluded to a rigged bidding process to supply the Bibles to classrooms but thought it was may just a little too on the nose to say what you expected.
What is maybe mildly surprising in the Oklahoman’s reporting is that, per state Superintendent of Education Ryan Walters’ specs – that the Bible must be the King James Version, must contain the Old and New Testaments, must include copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, and the US Constitution, and must be bound in leather or leather-like material – is that it’s not just the $60 Lee Greenwood God Bless The USA Bible that fits this. No, they threw us a curveball and it turns out there’s another Trump-endorsed Bible called the “We The People Bible.”
It sells for $90. Didn’t see that one coming. So we guess the bid process is competitive, though the obvious edge goes to Greenwood’s just by virtue of price. Then again we don’t know whether the other one is paying Trump royalties on the sales. If it is then it actually is a “better value.”
