Roughly one in five of the 93 Republican Party members from the swing states who have already been chosen to serve representatives to the Electoral College played some role in “Stop the Steal” in 2020, with 13 of them having signed the fake votes for convicted felon former President Trump that December – eight of those now facing criminal charges for the scam – and another six having had some other level of involvement in the MAGA coup attempt, Politico reports.
The eight facing charges include Michiganders John Haggard, Hank Choate, Timothy King, Amy Facchinello, Marian Sheridan, former state GOP co-chair Meshawn Maddock and Nevada state GOP chair Michael McDonald and Clark County Chair Jesse Law, the latter two’s charges having been dismissed but more likely than not to be revived as prosecutors appeal the dismissal.
“It would appear that the party leadership in the states where there are fraudulent electors serving as electors again are not taking seriously things like criminal charges,” said Georgetown Law professor Mary McCord, co-host of MSNBC’s “Prosecuting Donald Trump” podcast.
