In what probably wouldn’t have hurt to have mentioned it during either his or Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaigns, President Joe Biden on Tuesday told an interviewer he’s in favor of a ban on congressional stock trading, saying “Nobody in the Congress should be able to make money in the stock market while they’re in the Congress,” the Associated Press reports.
“I don’t know how you look your constituents in the eye and know, because the job they gave you, gave you an inside track to make more money,” Biden said. “I think we should be changing the law.”
Urrrghhhh… Now neither he nor Kamala Harris would’ve won or lost on this issue specifically but at the same time there’s a whole universe of similar common-sense reforms with wide appeal that could have been worked on the campaign trail. There weren’t enough simpler appeals to the simpler voters out there who bought into all that “OPEN BORDERS” and “LOWER PRICES” horseshit.
