Arizona state lawmakers are looking at trying again to ban brass knuckles after a similar bill failed in 2023, the Arizona Republic reports while noting that the first attempt to get it passed collapsed due to “opposition from some legislators concerned about restricting methods of self-defense.”
The sponsor both times is a Republican, state Senator John Kavanaugh, and it’s not clear who was opposed, but they were probably just more MAGA than Kavanaugh. Either way Arizona is one of only 12 states that doesn’t prohibit the sale or possession of the weapon so maybe it might be a good idea to become the 39th. The effort began after a series 2022 of grang beatings by a crew of white suburban teenagers calling themselves the “Gilbert Goons,” one of the attacks fatal.
