The details of this sob story in the Philadelphia Inquirer don’t really matter because you can already tell by the quote headline where it’s going but, for a bare minimum of context, the topline is that a bunch of staffers who seasonally manage an Army Corps of Engineers-owned 300-site campground on Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania got DOGEd, forcing its closure, leaving nearby business owners in Huntingdon County – which convicted felon President Trump won by friggin 75.96 to 23.13 percent in November – who are dependent on that traffic crying out for help and hearing nothing.
“This affects the entire county, not just us,” said fishing/general store owner Judy Norris, whose revenue is down 45 or 50 percent from last year due to the closures. “This is recreation. We’re talking about campsites. This isn’t hurting anyone, and it’s not going to save the government any money by closing these campgrounds.” Sweating the closure as Memorial Day weekend approached, Norris reached out to the Corps or any elected officials and heard nothing at all. “This is Memorial Day weekend. You normally can’t move in here. The parking lot is usually jammed,” the 81 year-old Caucasian said as she looked at her largely empty store that she voted for.
“That’s hundreds of families not coming through here every weekend,” said Brian Paterson, who owns a barbecue joint nearby, also down about 45 percent from last year. “This will put a hurting on us. If they don’t do anything soon, this summer is ruined,” he continued. The article doesn’t say whom Paterson voted for, but the relatively calm language may point toward the Orange God Emperor. A liberal would be far more vocal about getting needlessly fucked over.
The article does paraquote Norris with “no one voted for Musk or DOGE,” lol. “People are wondering what we did to him to deserve this,” she said of Ketamine Brain. “I wish I had clout and could go down there and tell them, ‘This is what you did to the people who voted for you.'”
But if wishes were fishes then there’d be a lot more folks buying bait and tackle from her.
