FBI agents on Wednesday executed a search warrant at the Virginia home of Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson, seizing a phone and a smartwatch, allegedly in connection to an investigation into a government IT administration contractor with a security clearance who is accused of smuggling classified intel out of the office, the paper reports.
“While it is not unusual for FBI agents to conduct leak investigations around reporters who publish sensitive government information, it is highly unusual and aggressive for law enforcement to conduct a search on a reporter’s home,” the Post writes of the somewhat muddy situation.
Basically it would seem that, if Joe Biden or Kamala Harris were president and Chris Wray still the director of the FBI now, the reporter would be subpoenaed and/or subjected to an interview. K$H decided to flex to rattle the media rather than handle it with discretion and professionalism. The underlying investigation still appears to be legitimate, though the Post’s story is currently pretty short. Stay tuned for them to update it later to lay out any additional details.
