Republican operative Carlton Huffman on Wednesday voluntarily identified himself to the Washington Post as the plaintiff in the sexual assault lawsuit against CPAC organizer Matt Schlapp.
“I’m not backing away. I’m not going to drop this. Matt Schlapp did what he did and he needs to be held accountable,” Huffman told the Post in an interview. He previously has spoken with multiple media outlets on background and was identified in a tweet by Schlapp crony Caroline Wren, who Huffman also sued separately for defamation over the tweet calling him a “scam artist.”
Huffman’s past is pretty par for the course for a Republican campaign employee: Glorifying the Confederate flag, calling for “preserving the European American culture of the United States,” and so on and so forth. “That is not who I am anymore,” he claims to the Post in the interview, also showing them a text to his former boss Mark Meadows on January 6th, 2021 condemning the insurrection.
But again, none of that calls Huffman’s credibility into question. If anything it makes it more believable that a sick right wing fuck like Matt Schlapp would find himself sexually attracted to him.
UPDATE 3/8/2023 1:39 PM EST: Well now we know why Huffman came forward, as Politico’s Josh Gerstein reports a Virginia court denied him anonymity in the suit against Schlapp.
