Democratic California Senator Dianne Feinstein asked Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to temporarily place a colleague on the Senate Judiciary Committee, acknowledging that the 89-year-old’s medical absence has caused significant problems confirming President Biden’s judges, CBS News reports.
Feinstein was hospitalized earlier this year with a severe case of shingles, but was discharged in early March. Her continued absence from the Judiciary Committee delayed the process of confirmation nominations, pushing some to suggest she should step down from her Senate seat. Feinstein announced in mid-February that she would not seek reelection in 2024.
