Once called “not mentally stable” by former GOP Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, the Republican nominee to be Hogan’s successor says he’s the target of fraud, claiming someone illegally filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to register his campaign for a House seat, the Baltimore Banner reports.
Republican House of Delegates member Dan Cox says someone else filed paperwork Monday announcing his campaign for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, currently held by Democrat David Trone, who’s running for the seat of retiring Democratic Senator Ben Cardin.
“I have made no such filing and Valerie and I have made no decision yet,” Cox wrote in a text message to the news outlet Wednesday in which he included a screenshot of an email to the FEC inquiring about the filing. “I did not [file the paperwork] and I intend to take action to find out who did.”
