Random thoughts Friday, Volume CXXXVI

  • I’m shocked–shocked! I say–that the document Donald Trump claimed he had that would completely exonerate him hasn’t leaked yet.  You’d think he’d want to get something like that out in the public domain to erase any doubt of his guilt, right?
  • For someone who’s supposed to be too old and too senile to hold the job, Biden’s kickin’ ass.  But what’s most appreciated is the normalcy brought to the White House.  It’s so calming not having afternoon briefings sound like Jerry Springer episodes every single day.  Now we just have Peter Doocy’s idiocy.
  • Despite all the Sturm und Drang about the fake “Biden mandates we can only have two beers per week” panic, conservatives know Brett Kavanaugh would’ve stopped it.
  • DeSantis bragged about Florida’s fiscal surplus while on the campaign trail.  Let’s see him apply that money to hurricane relief before he gets a single dollar of federal money.  Americans should not automatically be put on the line until the people who chose to live in Florida–and elect DeSantis–exhaust their resources.  Federal aid and tax breaks–for disaster relief or industry support–should only extend so that entities don’t suffer a loss, not so they don’t lose their profits.
  • If, as believed, he’s cooperating with the Special Counsel, Mark Meadows will soon cut a deal with Fani Willis.  He does not want to go to jail, and his legal paths to get out of the charges have evaporated.  He’ll flip, if Fani will have him.
  • In one of his serial rants, Donald Trump threatened to “expose” Democratic corruption in government.  I say, Cool.  Do it.  If there are corrupt Democrats, I don’t want them in office.  But don’t fabricate rumors and innuendo like Republicans are doing now.
  • The Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers are all about their costumes:  the pseudo-military Army surplus stuff they wear to look tough while they play paintball.  They won’t have that in prison to shield them, nor will they have the protection of their gang.
  • A home chef can make a delicious dish for dinner for family and friends.  A restaurant chef can make that same dish–and 30 others–over and over and over again, day after day, consistently, and has the desire, passion, and talent to do so.  Too many people have bought the restaurant before understanding the difference.
  • Thanks to climate change, Labor Day weekend no longer marks the end of summer… ‘cause there is no end of summer.
  • I appreciate the Republicans who are coming out and saying bluntly that the GOP should ditch Trump because he’s historically a loser.  The problem is, your message is aimed at GOP voters who traditionally don’t listen to logical thinkers.
  • What was the greatest idea before sliced bread?  There was something, then there was sliced bread, then everything else better than sliced bread.
  • I’ve been feeding my need for late-night comedy by rewatching John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight.”  The one comparing the respective scandals of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump seems quaint now.
  • This week’s filing continues to show that Clarence Thomas is America’s longest-reigning kakistocrat.
  • Fox hosts calling out Ramaswamy for the same lies Trump told in the same way Trump told them doesn’t make them journalists now.  It makes them suck-ups.
  • Sadly, there are no foods that uniquely scream “Labor Day.”  It shares its menu with July Fourth and Memorial Day.  A recommendation:  the humble sub/hero/hoagie, a lunchbox meal for laborers for centuries.
  • Just want to give props to reporters and internet warriors like Kyle Cheney, Anna Bower, Scott MacFarlane, Acyn, Aaron Rupar, the unnamed folks at ProPublica, and all the other journalists who are out there on the ground, using social media to keep us updated–to the minute–on court cases that get little coverage but mean so much. We couldn’t do this without them. If you get a chance–and after you dutifully tithe to NatZero–sign up for their newsletters or Substacks and show ‘em some love.
  • I never knew buying a dishwasher could be so stressful. Finishes, sprayers, temperature controls, and of course, value. It would be easier to just get rid of the dishes.
