Summarizing the state of play on the field in Washington, super “plugged-in” Politico whiz Zach Stanton writes in the Friday morning edition of the “Playbook” newsletter titled “Trump’s narrative shift” that “After week one, the Trump administration seemed a bit like a Colossus astride the world.”
“After week two, it seems altogether more fallible and subject to the same laws of gravity that apply to every government and political leader. Whether that sense lasts is anyone’s guess – so much can happen so quickly in politics, and it’s entirely possible that in a month’s time, we’ll look back on this week as an anomalous moment in what is otherwise a series of political victories for Trump…”
“But I’d be remiss if I didn’t share that I’ve seen a noticeable shift in my conversations with Democrats over the last couple days. Suddenly, there’s some faint whiff of the old Trump 1.0-era resistance magic in the air, and some (but definitely not all) [emphasis Santon’s] of the intraparty quarreling that has raged since the November election has been supplanted by a new determination to paper over those differences and take on Trump. And yet…” Stanton continued, using the ellipses to lead into a section about the “neck-and-neck race” for the Democratic National Committee chair.
Holy shit this goddamned newsletter is so monstrously aggravating. This son of a bitch just fucking outright admitted he was getting excited that the “resistance magic” was back, that the conflicts that fueled so many clicks for Politico and other MSM sites from 2017 to 2021 are firing on all cylinders once again, that these “Beltway pro” cocksuckers got what they wanted out of the 2024 election. That, rather than a relatively placid and boring Harris administration where Republicans would act even more unhinged than they were 2021 to 2025 but since that didn’t drive traffic for Politico like the anarchy of the first Trump Regime did, it’s “magic.” Un-fucking-believable.
