After a lot of screeching and threats of ICE enforcement and attempts at sabotage by Don Jr’s allies, the canvassers collecting signatures for a petition that will freeze Missouri’s congressional map through at least the 2026 midterms – thereby preserving the seat held by Kansas City Dem Congressman Emanuel Cleaver – plan to submit their roll to the Secretary of State next week, having gathered 200,000 signatures, well above the 107,000 required, the Missouri Independent reports.
Of course Secretary of State Denny Hoskins is going to kick and scream over this, declaring he would not accept any signatures – about 90,000 – that were gathered before the state legislature passed the new map. He’s also being sued for changing the ballot measure proposal’s language to say it “better reflects statewide voting patterns” and replaces a “gerrymandered” version that “protects incumbent politicians.” Attorney General Catherine Hanaway meanwhile filed a federal lawsuit arguing that even though the MAGA map is a piece of legislation approved by the state legislature, it should not be subject to a ballot measure. God forbid they have to win the referendum.
