A health department doctor in Harris County, Texas was fired and will be charged after stealing a vial of coronavirus vaccine, allegedly so he could inoculate his family, KTVT CBS-11 Dallas reports.
Dr. Hasan Gokal stole a vial that contained nine doses of the coronavirus vaccine in late December from a county vaccination site in Humble, Texas. He told a coworker of his theft, which led to his firing and arrest.
“He abused his position to place his friends and family in line in front of people who had gone through the lawful process to be there,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said. “What he did was illegal and he’ll be held accountable under the law.”
He faces up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
