Democratic Congressional Committee Chairman Sean Maloney, a New York Democratic Congressman released a list of 22 Republican-held House seats the Democrats will try to flip in the 2022 midterm elections, the Washington Post reports.
“Every Republican member on this battlefield voted against putting money in people’s pockets and getting shots into people’s arms,” Maloney said. “They are on the wrong side of the most important issues.”
With overall support for Donald Trump fading, Republicans refusing to support legislation that is widely popular with voters, and the GOP generally lacking substantive policy initiatives besides promoting obstructionism, the DCCC sees an opportunity to reverse traditional midterm losses by the party in power.
“The theme is that this Republican Party in the House is bankrupt of ideas,” Maloney said. “They voted against the plan that 75 percent of the country supports, and every local Republican that I know also supports, and what they have focused on instead are either irrelevant issues like Mr. Potato Head and Dr. Seuss, or trying to justify a violent attack on the Capitol.”
Two months ago, the National Republican Congressional Committee released its list of 47 Democratic seats it will target in 2022, but that was before the passage of the American Rescue Plan, the GOP renewal of culture wars, state Republican efforts to suppress voter turnout and numerous scandals involving the Trump campaign and Republican members of Congress.
